Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy applies to File Box (the “App,” “File Box,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
1. Our Privacy Principle
File Box is a local-first file management, media viewing, and file processing application.
We value your privacy and design File Box around local storage and on-device processing.
Files are stored locally on your device by default. We do not operate cloud servers to store or process the contents of your files.
Files you import into File Box are stored locally on your device by default. File Box does not operate cloud servers for uploading, storing, or processing the contents of your files, and we cannot remotely access or view the files you store in the App.
2. Information Collection and Use
File Box does not require you to create an account and does not actively collect personally identifiable information such as your name, email address, phone number, contacts, or precise location.
We do not upload photos, videos, audio files, PDFs, text files, archives, or other private file contents that you import into File Box to servers operated by us.
To provide file management, reading, playback, and file processing features, the App may locally read, generate, or store information such as:
- File names, types, sizes, modification dates, and other file information;
- File tags, sorting preferences, and display preferences;
- File search and storage analysis information;
- Duplicate-file analysis results or file fingerprints;
- Thumbnails and caches for images, videos, audio, and other files;
- Reading or playback progress for audio, video, PDF, TXT, and other supported content;
- Local metadata associated with files;
- App settings and feature states;
- The local trial start time, cached membership entitlements, and the number of consecutive offline verification attempts (see Section 16).
This information is used to provide File Box functionality and is primarily stored locally on your device.
3. File Storage and On-Device Processing
Files imported into File Box are primarily stored within the App’s local iOS/iPadOS sandbox or in locations you explicitly select through system features.
Features such as file management, search, storage analysis, duplicate-file detection, compression and extraction, image processing, audio processing, video processing, PDF tools, and text processing are generally performed locally on your device.
File Box does not actively upload your files to servers operated by us in order to perform these functions.
During file processing, the App may create temporary files, caches, thumbnails, or processed output files. These are used only as necessary to provide the relevant functionality and are managed by the App or operating system as appropriate.
4. App Lock and Private Space
File Box provides features such as App Lock, password protection, and Private Space to help reduce unauthorized access to content through the File Box interface.
Depending on your device and available features, you may use a password or device-supported biometric authentication.
Files stored in Private Space remain stored locally on your device.
App Lock, Private Space, and biometric authentication primarily control access to content through the File Box interface. Their effectiveness may also depend on factors such as your device’s lock state, operating system security mechanisms, permissions, system backups, and user actions.
Please keep your device passcode and any passwords configured in File Box secure.
5. Face ID / Touch ID
When you enable biometric unlocking, File Box uses Apple’s system authentication APIs.
Face ID or Touch ID recognition and authentication are handled by iOS/iPadOS and the device’s security mechanisms.
File Box:
- Does not receive your facial images;
- Does not receive your fingerprint data;
- Does not read or store your biometric templates;
- Only receives the authentication result provided by the system.
You can manage relevant permissions through your device settings.
6. Photos and File Access
When you actively use features such as importing photos, importing files, selecting images or videos, or saving content to your photo library, File Box may request access to your photo library or use Apple’s system file picker.
Such access is used only to perform file selection, import, reading, editing, export, or saving actions that you initiate.
File Box does not upload your photos or files to servers operated by us merely because you grant these permissions.
7. Microphone and Recording
When you use recording features, File Box may request microphone access.
The microphone is used only for recording actions that you initiate.
Audio recordings are stored locally on your device. File Box does not actively upload your recordings to servers operated by us.
You can manage File Box’s microphone permission at any time through iOS/iPadOS Settings.
8. Apple Watch
If you install and use the File Box Apple Watch app, you may use supported features such as audio recording from your Apple Watch.
Recordings or other necessary data may be transferred or synchronized between your Apple Watch and its paired iPhone using device communication mechanisms provided by Apple.
This process uses Apple’s system frameworks and device communication mechanisms. File Box does not use servers operated by us to relay or store your recording files.
9. Local Network and Wi-Fi File Transfer
When you use Wi-Fi File Transfer, File Box may request Local Network permission.
This feature allows computers, phones, or other devices on the same local network to connect to File Box and perform file uploads, downloads, browsing, previews, deletion, or other file management actions that you allow.
While Wi-Fi File Transfer is enabled, devices on the same local network that can reach the transfer service provided by File Box may attempt to connect to your device.
We therefore recommend enabling Wi-Fi File Transfer only on networks you trust and disabling it when you have finished using it.
Data transferred through Wi-Fi File Transfer primarily travels between your device and connected devices on your local network. File Box does not relay these files through servers operated by us.
10. TV Casting and Local Device Discovery
When you use TV casting or compatible device discovery features, File Box may use Local Network permission and related network protocols to discover TVs, media players, or other compatible devices on the same local network.
When you actively select a destination device and begin playback, relevant media content, media addresses, or playback control information may be transmitted over your local network to the device you selected.
File Box does not relay your media files through servers operated by us.
How a third-party TV, player, receiver, or related software handles data it receives is the responsibility of the relevant device, software, or service provider.
11. Image, Audio, Video, and Document Processing
File Box provides various local file processing and media tools, including but not limited to:
- Image viewing, editing, and batch compression;
- Image or PDF watermarking;
- Creating PDFs from multiple images;
- PDF-related processing;
- Text viewing and editing;
- Audio playback, trimming, and format conversion;
- Video playback, frame cropping, duration trimming, and format conversion;
- Extracting audio from video;
- Converting video and other supported media formats;
- ZIP compression;
- Extraction of supported archive formats such as ZIP and RAR;
- Password-protected compression or extraction for supported archive formats;
- Previewing or playing videos, audio, images, PDFs, text files, and other supported files;
- Local utility features such as QR code generation.
These operations are generally performed locally on your device.
Unless you actively send files to another device, app, or service using system sharing, Wi-Fi File Transfer, TV casting, or another export method, File Box does not actively upload these files to servers operated by us.
12. File Search, Tags, Storage Analysis, and Duplicate Detection
File Box may analyze files stored locally in the App to provide features such as file search, tags, file categorization, storage usage statistics, and duplicate-file detection.
To provide these features, the App may locally read or process necessary file information, including file names, file types, file sizes, modification dates, file identifiers, and file contents or fingerprints necessary to determine whether files are duplicates.
This analysis is performed locally on your device.
File Box does not upload your private file contents to servers operated by us for file search, storage analysis, or duplicate-file detection.
13. Reading and Playback Progress
To provide features such as resuming reading or playback, File Box may store reading or playback progress for supported files locally on your device.
This information may include:
- Text reading positions;
- PDF pages or reading positions;
- Audio playback positions;
- Video playback positions;
- Other information necessary to restore reading or playback state.
This state information is stored locally on your device and is not actively uploaded to servers operated by us.
When the related file is permanently deleted, some associated reading or playback state may also be deleted or removed during subsequent data cleanup.
14. System Sharing and Other Apps
File Box uses the sharing mechanisms provided by iOS/iPadOS to support file importing, exporting, and sharing. File Box does not use third-party sharing SDKs.
You may use system sharing features to save files from other apps into File Box or actively send or open files from File Box in another app, device, or service.
Files are transferred according to your selection only when you actively initiate the relevant action.
Once you actively share, export, or open a file with a third-party app, website, device, or service, the handling of that data is subject to the privacy policy and data practices of the relevant third party.
File Box cannot control how a third party you choose handles the data it receives.
15. System Backups and Device Migration
File Box itself does not provide iCloud file synchronization or cloud file storage and does not actively upload your files to cloud servers operated by us.
However, depending on your device settings and Apple’s system mechanisms, iOS/iPadOS may include some App data in iCloud Backup, device backups, device-to-device migration, or other system-level backup and restoration processes.
Such backup, restoration, or migration is managed by Apple and the operating system. It does not mean that File Box actively uploads your files to our servers, nor does it mean that File Box provides iCloud file synchronization.
If you do not want File Box-related App data to be included in iCloud Backup, you can manage the relevant backup options through iOS/iPadOS Settings.
16. In-App Purchases
File Box offers a local free trial, monthly and yearly subscriptions, and a lifetime purchase through the App Store. Prices, trial periods, and entitlements are as displayed in the App and on the App Store. The local free trial is separate from any App Store subscription trial offer.
Purchases, renewals, and payments are handled by Apple’s App Store system. File Box does not directly collect or process your bank account number, credit card information, or other complete payment credentials.
The App uses Apple’s StoreKit APIs to read product and transaction information, including product identifiers and types, transaction IDs, purchase and expiration dates, renewal status, plan changes, and refund or revocation information. This information is used to verify membership entitlements, restore purchases, and display purchase history. These operations may communicate with Apple services but do not send Apple the contents of your private files stored in File Box.
The App stores the trial start time, cached membership entitlements, and the number of consecutive offline verification attempts on your device. These records are used to calculate the trial period, restore membership status at launch, and manage offline access. The offline count resets when a network path is available and purchase status verification succeeds.
Purchase history is provided by Apple and read for display during the current App session. File Box does not maintain a separate persistent purchase history database. This purchase information is not uploaded to servers operated by us or used for advertising or profiling. When you choose to copy an order number, that number is written to the system clipboard, which is managed by the operating system.
Payment and App Store data are also subject to Apple’s Privacy Policy and applicable terms of service. You can manage subscriptions through the App Store or the App’s Manage Subscription option.
17. Third-Party Services, Advertising, and Data Sharing
File Box does not display third-party advertising and does not use advertising services.
File Box does not use third-party analytics or user behavior analysis services, third-party advertising SDKs, or third-party sharing SDKs.
We do not collect, sell, or provide the private file contents you store in File Box to third parties for advertising, profiling, behavioral analysis, cross-app tracking, or marketing purposes.
File Box does not use third-party analytics services to analyze the private files you store, view, or process in the App.
The App may use system frameworks and services provided by Apple to support necessary functionality such as App operation, in-app purchases, biometric authentication, system sharing, file selection, photo access, Apple Watch communication, and other system features.
When you actively use system sharing, TV casting, Wi-Fi File Transfer, or other export features, relevant data may be sent to the app, device, or service you select. Such transfers are initiated by you and do not mean that File Box provides your data to third parties for advertising, analytics, or user tracking.
Once a file leaves File Box and is sent to a third-party app, device, or service selected by you, that third party’s collection, use, storage, and protection of the data are governed by its own privacy policy and terms of service.
Web Access and Long Screenshots
When you use the web page screenshot feature, the websites you open and their resource providers receive network requests needed to load the page. They may receive your IP address, browser information, and any information you choose to submit on the page. Their handling of this data is governed by their own privacy policies.
The web tool uses a nonpersistent browsing session that does not persist cookies or web caches to disk. Screenshots are generated on your device, and saved images are managed as ordinary local files. This does not prevent websites from retaining data they have received and does not provide anonymous browsing.
18. Data Retention and Deletion
File Box’s primary user files and related App data are stored locally on your device.
You can delete files using the file management features provided by File Box.
For features that support a Trash or similar recovery mechanism, deleted files may be temporarily retained before permanent deletion so that you can restore them.
When a file is permanently deleted, associated thumbnails, caches, reading progress, playback progress, or other local state may also be deleted or cleaned up later by the App or operating system.
The trial start time and cached membership entitlements are stored in the system Keychain. The offline verification count is stored in local App settings. Entitlement caches are updated when purchase status is checked, and the offline count resets as described in Section 16. These records are not deleted when you delete ordinary files; retention and restoration of Keychain records are managed by the operating system.
Uninstalling File Box will generally cause iOS/iPadOS to remove data stored in the App’s local sandbox, but it does not delete transaction records maintained by Apple or automatically cancel subscriptions. Apple’s rules apply to the retention of purchase records and subscription management.
However, if system backup, device migration, or restoration features are enabled, some App data may already exist in backups managed by Apple and may be restored according to Apple’s mechanisms.
Please back up any files you consider important before uninstalling the App, permanently deleting files, emptying the Trash, changing devices, or performing other actions that may result in data loss.
19. Data Security
File Box uses the iOS/iPadOS App sandbox, system authentication, and privacy features provided by the App, such as App Lock and Private Space, to help reduce the risk of unauthorized access to your files.
However, no software, device, or data storage method can guarantee absolute security.
Jailbroken devices, operating system vulnerabilities, compromised device or App passwords, unauthorized control of your device, files you actively share with third parties, or other circumstances outside File Box’s control may affect the security of your data.
Please keep your device, system passcode, App passwords, and important files secure.
20. Children’s Privacy
File Box does not require users to create an account and is not designed to collect children’s personal information.
The App does not actively request information such as age, name, or contact details and does not create user profiles based on private file contents stored in File Box.
File Box does not display third-party advertising and does not use the contents of user files to deliver personalized advertising to children or other users.
21. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as File Box features, Apple platform requirements, applicable laws and regulations, or our data practices change.
If a change has a significant impact on user privacy, we may provide notice through the App Store page, an in-app notice, the project page, or another appropriate method.
The updated Privacy Policy becomes effective on the effective date stated in the revised policy.
